Melissa Fox, MA, LMFT, CCTP

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist | Clinical Trauma Professional

New Leaf Counseling Group was founded by Mr. Logan Cohen in 2014 and established in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte. Over the last 12 years, New Leaf Counseling Group has been dedicated to serving community members who are in need of emotional and psychological support, especially those struggling with disruption in their most personal and intimate social relationships. Melissa is a counselor at our practice who continues this philosophy.

Since 2008, Melissa has been helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges. She has a particular passion for supporting healthcare professionals, patients, and students, as well as anyone struggling with stress, burnout, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, or relationship conflict.

With specialized training in relationships and with a trauma-informed approach, Melissa assists clients in managing complex life demands—whether it’s balancing work and self-care, coping with chronic or recurring illness, adjusting to new diagnoses, navigating academic pressures, or dealing with relationship stress. Her expertise extends to those facing professional or personal transitions, offering guidance to build resilience and find stability during times of uncertainty.

As a Medical Family Therapist, Melissa understands firsthand the unique emotional and relational challenges that come with healthcare professions and chronic health conditions. She is also deeply invested in helping individuals and families strengthen communication, intimacy, and connection in the face of change or conflict. More recently, she has developed a growing interest in supporting clients as they navigate an increasingly complex socio-political landscape.

Melissa is a trauma-informed therapist and is passionate about trauma recovery, particularly for those in the Carolinas who are working through past or present wounds. She integrates grief and loss support into her trauma work, helping clients and their loved ones process their experiences while fostering healing, meaning, and transformation. Having faced her own challenges, Melissa brings not only professional expertise but also genuine empathy to her work, meeting each client where they are with compassion and encouragement.

"I’m an empathetic, down-to-earth therapist with a direct, affirming style. My goal is to help individuals, couples, and families move through trauma, grief, loss, and life transitions—toward healing, resilience, and growth."
