New Leaf Counseling Group was founded by Mr. Logan Cohen in 2014 and established in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte. Over the last 12 years, New Leaf Counseling Group has been dedicated to serving community members who are in need of emotional and psychological support, especially those struggling with disruption in their most personal and intimate social relationships. Melissa is a counselor at our practice who continues this philosophy.

I have been working with individuals, couples, and families for over a decade - particularly with healthcare providers and anyone dealing with Stress, Burnout, Trauma, Anxiety, and/or Depression symptoms resulting from working in healthcare, coping with medical issues such as chronic or recurring illness, and adjusting to new diagnoses.

In part from my training as a Medical Family Therapist, as well as through my own personal experiences, I am very familiar with the unique challenges healthcare professions and chronic health conditions can create in our personal and professional lives. I also enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families who want to grow through transitions, but instead are struggling with communication, intimacy, and conflict.

I have completed the Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Intensive Training Course and am passionate about using this training with community members in the Charlotte area who are recovering from their own unresolved trauma(s). This trauma work also involves important elements of grief & loss, where the cross training in Medical Family Therapy becomes helpful for supporting Self & Loved Ones healing from unresolved wounds. Very few of us have not been impacted by trauma, myself included, and I have an innate passion for supporting community members healing from past wounds.

"I am an empathetic and down-to-earth therapist with a direct style and plenty of knowledge about how to help families, couples, and individuals who are learning to cope with trauma, grief, loss, family conflict, and life transitions on their way to GROWTH."
